Lloyd Melvin Lemay 

 

It is with great sadness, we mourn the loss of Lloyd Melvin Lemay, a beloved father, grandfather, partner and friend to all. Lloyd was born in Kenora on August 12, 1938, and passed on October 29, 2019. As a child, the family moved to Geraldton Ontario for work, and moved back to Kenora to see the green trees. Dad started his working career young at the age of 12, working at Kenricia, where they took him under their wing, and treated him like their own. Dad worked numerous jobs throughout his life, doing odd jobs,

Darcy Roderick Spencer

 

Darcy Roderick Spencer was born March 5, 1922 and passed away in the early hours of October 2, 2019, 97 years of age, at Pinecrest Home.  Darcy was the son of Joseph and Delia Spencer.  He was born in Kenora, Ontario and lived his entire life here other than his six years with the military during the Second World War (39-46).  Dad met Mom through friends and they were married a year after he returned from the war on June 21, 1947.

Harold Andrew Roberts

 

Harold Andrew Roberts passed away August 19, 2019 at his place of residence at Birchwood Terrace Nursing Home.  Harold was born July 15, 1957 and lived most of his life in Kenora.  He worked with his father in the family logging and lumber business and was late employed with Devlin Timber and McDiarmid Lumber.  He was a very hard worker and always did his best.

Joanne (Mary) Sawkins, 81, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2019 at Lake of the Woods District Hospital.

She was born on June 28, 1938 in Norman Ontario to Fee and Yvonne Caron (Portier).

Joanne married “her Bill” in 1959, and stayed at  home in Lakeside to raise their two children.

In 1982 their family moved out to Coney Island for 7 years of fun an adventure.

Doug died at the LOW Hospital just days prior to his 90th birthday. Stella Krolyk

 

Stella Krolyk passed away on January 13, 2019. She was born in the Ukraine on May 11, 1928 and came to Canada in 1930 with her mother and older sister to join their father in Manitoba. The family (including a younger sister) moved to Kenora in 1937 where Stella remained for the rest of her life.

She was pre-deceased by her husband of 55 years, Walter, in 2004 and her two sisters Olga and Rose both in 2017. She is survived by her only son Larry, his wife

Ted was born in Tokyo April 7, 1950 to Frank & Jean Carey who were serving as missionaries in Japan.  He spent 12 of his first 14 years there, attending the American School in Japan.  Upon their return to Canada, Ted went on to attend the University of Waterloo to achieve his B.A., followed by Lakeshore Teacher’s College.

Bertrand Cecil Alcock

 

With heavy hearts & profound sadness the family of Bertrand Cecil Alcock announce his passing on December 1, 2018 at Lake of the Woods District Hospital after a brief illness.

Bert was born November 6, 1929 in Kenora, Ontario to Clifford and Elvira Alcock. He was the 4th of 10 children.

Bert is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Kathy, daughter Debbie Riley

Gary Alcock

Gary Alcock passed away peacefully on November 22, 2018 following a long and courageous battle with a rare illness.  He will be forever lovingly remembered by Mom & Dad, Bert and Bernadette Alcock, his brother Ken (Vicky), his sister Bonnie (Joe), nephews Jason and Kevin, niece Kimberly, many cousins, special cousin Lorry, many other relatives, and of course his best friend Wade. He was an avid outdoorsman and

After a battle with dementia, our wonderful Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep with Marnie by her side.  Mom married Dad (Fred MacGregor) in Kenora on September 28, 1950, after a two week courtship!  It really was love at first sight and remained that way for 66 years. Besides working side by side with Dad on the farm on the Anderson

FERNANDEZ, Terence Charles – February 22, 1933 – October 17, 2018

Peacefully, on October 17, 2018 Terry passed away with his family by his side, at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital.

Terry was the proud owner and operator of Gayles Motel in Keewatin up to the date of his passing.  Terry and his wife ran the business for 38 years.  He made many friends during this time, all of whom would come by daily for a cup of coffee and a chat.  His kindness, generosity, and gentleness were well known by all who knew him.

Alice Sigrid    July 26, 1931 - October 2, 2018

 

Peacefully on October 2, 2018 Alice passed away at Pinecrest Home.  She was predeceased by her parents Alfred and Elin Christianson, sister Ann Olfert, brothers Arthur, Harold and Kenneth.  Alice is survived by her daughter Linda (Lance) McCutchon, granddaughter Jaime Nachuk, sisters Eleanor Engwall and Jean (Jack) Bergen. She will also be remembered by many nieces and nephews.  Alice married the love of her life Jim at age twenty.  They spent the next 63 years doing everything together.  Mom

John Toms      May 21, 1936 – September 25, 2018

On Tuesday afternoon, as the sun shone briefly, a float plane flew into Safety Bay. God came to pick up Dale and take him home. Dale lived his life in his home town of Keewatin. Following his schooling, his career was with the Ontario Provincial Government under the Ministry of Transport as well as Community and Social Services. Dale and Sharon were married on September 17th, 1977. Flying was Dale’s favourite pastime. He obtained his Private and Glider Flyer licenses. He spent several

Katharine Elizabeth “Betty” Newton (nee Francis) died peacefully at Pinecrest Home in on September 21, 2018 at the age of 92.

Betty is preceded by her husband Russell, her sister Ruth Jago, and brother Philip Francis of Virden Manitoba.

MERREDEW, Robert Walter - The family of Bob Merredew are very sad to advise of his passing on September 7th 2018 at Pinecrest Home for the Aged. Bob was born in Winnipeg on 1 August 1923 to Charles and Edith and was the youngest of four children. The family moved to Keewatin when he was a teenager and he immediately loved the small town on the Lake of the Woods, where he was content to spend the rest of his life, except for his years of service during World War ll. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as his 18th birthday approached and began to put his mechanical skills

Allan Jamieson

It is with great sadness that the family of Allan Scott Jamieson announce his passing at Lake of the Woods Hospital in Kenora, ON on August 18, 2018, after a brief battle with cancer. He peacefully passed away with the love of his life at his side holding his hand.

He was born on Nov. 10, 1938 in Winnipeg, MB. He was predeceased by his infant daughter Mary Ellen in 1961, his mother Doris (1988), his father Archie (1994) and his in laws Bones and Dorothy Race. Also, many other relatives and close friends.

Agnes Hando Obituary

On August 2, 2018, our mother, Agnes Hando, passed away with family by her side, at Pinecrest Home for the Aged.

She was born in Mezo Zombor, Hungary on January 7, 1925.  Mom, the eldest of six girls, immigrated to Canada with her mother and sister in 1926.  They joined her father who was already here working in Saskatchewan.  Growing up on the farm, mom and her sisters were all required to pitch in to provide for the family.  She

Leroux, Marion Esther  -  August 6, 1938 – July 27, 2018 With loving family by her side, Marion Leroux (nee Ames) passed away at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg Manitoba on Friday, July 27, 2018 after a valiant battle with critical surgery related problems for a recent health issue.

 

Marion was pre-deceased by her mother and father of Kenora, Rose (nee Bourgouin) Ames and Milton Ames, and her sister Joan Degagné of Galt California. Marion was also pre-deceased by her father and mother in law Frank Leroux Sr. and Henrietta

Russell Stenlund

Born in Thunder BAY Ontario on February 27 1948 lost his battle with cancer and peacefully passed with his family present on July 26 2018 in the Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora Ontario.

Russell was a hardworking man who loved bush work which suited his love for the outdoors as an avid fisherman and hunter and all around outdoorsman.  As a young man he enjoyed boxing hockey and most of all working with his father and in later

Peter Breed

On July 26th, 2018, with his family by his side, Peter Breed peacefully passed away at Lake of the Woods District Hospital.

Peter leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 38 years Tanis and his two daughters, the apples of his eye, Terri (Matthew) Podolas and Angela Breed (Kyle Hawkes). He also leaves to mourn sister Joan of Kenora, his brother Ken (Debbie) of Alberta, his mother in law, Maureen McDonald of Kenora, his sisters in law Tara (Micheal) Anderson.

Roy Vernon Tacknyk  -  September 23, 1942 – July 23, 2018

 

Roy passed away at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital July 23, 2018 following a serious illness.  He was born to Bill and Olga Tacknyk and spent his whole life in Kenora, Ontario.  Roy was pre-deceased by his parents, Bill and Olga, and his wife Sharon Tacknyk.  Left behind to mourn are his wife Darlene, daughter Lana (Lyle), and grandchildren Ashley and Brenden, and his sister Mildred.  He will also be greatly missed by his cousin and best friends Ron and Nadean Tacknyk; his fur baby

Charles (Chuck) Bourgeois  July 20, 2018

 

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Charles (Chuck) Bourgeois on Friday July 20, 2018. Chuck loved nothing more than being on the land. It was where he was truly home and were he found his peace. Chuck shared his knowledge and passion for his Metis culture in his role as an Instructor in the Kenanow Faculty of Education at UCN and previously with the Aboriginal Education Directorate. Chuck was completing a PhD in Native Studies at the University of

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a wonderful man, husband, father, grandfather and friend Alex McDonald at his home (Pinecrest District Home for the Aged). Dad has now joined Mom and his son Dale. On July 21, 2018 Pinecrest was having a run for Alzheimer’s. The parking lot was full of bikes and there were pipers playing bagpipes. As the pipers played their last song Amazing Grace, Dad took his final breathe. When the bikes engines started it was then I knew my brother Dale
