Mervyn Milton Bateman

 

Mervyn Milton Bateman passed away on Friday, April 5th, 2019 at Birchwood Terrace, Kenora, ON at the age of 75.

 

Merv was born in Kenville MB on May 12th, 1943 to Dorothy and Clayton Bateman and was raised on the family farm with siblings, Fay, Daryl and Shelley.

 

He attended high school in Swan River, MB, then hired on with Gillis and Warren.  He was transferred to Thunder Bay, ON where he met and married Helen (nee Wolfe) in 1969.

 

Married life began in Kenora with Merv’s promotion as manager with Acklands, formerly Gillis and Warren. Helen & Merv purchased the Sherwin Williams franchise on Main Street in the early 70’s.  Merv decided on a career change and apprenticed with Ken-o-Kee Electric and after obtaining his electrician’s papers he hired on with Ontario Hydro in Ear Falls.  He later transferred to Kenora and retired from Hydro One at a nuclear site in Southern Ontario.

 

Merv is survived by Helen, their two daughters Robyn (Scott) West, grandchildren, Kennedy, Shane and Reagan, Williams Lake. B.C., Krystyn and her fiancé Richard, Nanaimo, B.C.  Siblings Fay (Art) Cocks, Moose Jaw. SK. Daryl (Lorraine) Bateman Selkirk, MB and Shelley (Norman) Dickson of Whitecourt AB.

 

Merv was a good family man, dedicated “skating dad” spending many hours at the rink pacing and waiting, always supportive to his girls in all they did.  He was a person who was always willing to help family and friends with his handyman skills.  Merv enjoyed many hours boating and riding his motorcycle.

 

He was a member of Legion Branch #13 and a past member of the Kenora Kinsmen.

 

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday April 12th, 2019 at Alcock Funeral Home in Keewatin.
