He is predeceased by his wife Jean and son David and also by his parents John and Apolonia Walczak, and siblings - Bea, Joe, Melthy, Frank and Charlotte.
John was born in Brandon, Manitoba on July 13, 1926 the youngest of six children. He moved to Kenora after the war and worked for the Canadian Pacific Railroad as an Engineer retiring in 1986 after 42 years of service.
John was drawn to Kenora from a love of hunting, fishing and outdoor living. It is in Kenora that John met and married Jean (Jennie) Kobernyk in 1953 and raised his family. John’s lifelong passion was the camp, and later home, he built with his wife Jean on Storm Bay, Lake of the Woods starting in 1964. His life was full of the many great times spent with family and friends on Storm Bay. Also the odd pickerel might have been caught and eaten during those years! His goal was to live out his life there which he ultimately did with his son Richard who now carries on the family name on Storm Bay.
Immediate cremation has taken place. Family Service to follow at a later date.
John’s family would like to thank the home care workers and nurses from the North West CCAC/ParaMed who helped him greatly during his last years. Also many thanks to the Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics and other staff of Lake of the Woods Hospital who provided him great care throughout the years.
Flowers gratefully declined. If desired, donations may be made to the Lake of the Woods Hospital Foundation in Kenora, Ontario.
