John Douglas Wilcox (March 20, 1929 – March 16, 2019)
Doug died at the LOW Hospital just days prior to his 90th birthday. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Martha and his 7 children: Bonnie (Dave), Jim, David (Merlyn), Doug (Winnifred), Susan (Rick). Debbie (Adam), and Marilyn. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, his siblings Pauline, Bob and Marg, and several nieces and nephews.
Doug and Martha moved to Kenora in 1958 with their young family, when Doug began working for the City of Kenora Parks and Cemetery Department. He was a long-term employee in that department, taking pride in keeping Kenora’s parks and cemetery beautiful with colourful flowers and well-trimmed lawns. The care Doug gave city parks was also directed to his home where the extensive lawns were always kept mowed and raked.
Doug had a full life, he was a kind and caring man of few words. His family was very important to him. The grandchildren and great grandchildren always brought a smile to his face and warmed his heart. He was a social being, he enjoyed going out for coffee and meeting up with his breakfast and coffee pals. It is unfortunate that in the last while his memories were taken from him and he struggled to recognize those around him.
The Memorial Mass will be held at St. Louis Church, Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or a charity of your choice.
