Gerald Ami Ouellette, Age 88yrs, of Kenora, Ontario, passed away on Wednesday, January 30th, 2019, peacefully and surrounded by family.
Gerry was born in Kenora, Ontario, to Joseph Cyril Ouellette and Francis Irene Ouellette (nee Derry) on November 25th, 1930. Gerry completed his Chartered Accounting degree and enjoyed a fulfilling career as a CA for 40 years, finishing with BDO Dunwoody from 1951-1991. He was also appointed as the Federal Returning Officer for 19 years from 1992-2011. Gerry married Estelle Catherine (nee Fregeau) on June 5th, 1954, in Kenora. Gerald was devoted to the Catholic Faith and was a dedicated member of the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church. He was a Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree Honour Guard and an active member of the Kenora K40 Club. Gerry sat on numerous boards, including the LOTW District Hospital, LOTW Museum, The Health Council, The Kenora Housing Authority, Kinsmen, Rotary, Knights of Columbus, Parish Council, Southward Villa and K40.
Gerry was a kind, generous, and patient man. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed life as an active member of the Kenora community. He grew up taking advantage of beautiful Lake of the Woods and could always be found cutting trees, mowing the lawn, taking a dip, or “sitting the boardwalk” on Coney Island. He loved to golf and was a lifelong member at the Kenora Golf and Country Club. In the winter, he could be found pushing brooms and throwing rocks at the curling club or enjoying coffee club at Knights of Columbus. He loved a good card game, a good book, and a good happy hour. He was a gentle, quiet man who made a tremendous impact on all who knew him.
Gerald is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Francis Ouellette, his siblings Stanley Joseph (Bud) Ouellette, Bert Ouellette (Tilley Ouellette), Joan Edie (nee Ouellette), Brother in Law Dr. Jim Edie, and Mary Leone Duggan (nee Ouellette), and Brother in Law Jerry Duggan.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Estelle C. Ouellette. Their 3 children, Jon Ouellette (Jaime Liwag), Jeff Ouellette (Shelley Ouellette), and Mike Ouellette (Toni Smith). Also survived by his 7 grandchildren, Kristin Kyle (Dr. Brad Kyle), Rachel Fugate (Lance Fugate), Cole Ouellette (Jesse Sawley), Lee Ouellette (Jenna Thomson), Lane Ouellette, Justin Ouellette (Miriam Ouellette), Scott Ouellette (Ashley Ouellette) and his 8 great grandchildren, Evey, Gavin, Silas, Sienna, Graden, Jakob, Hunter, and Acelynn.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, February 1, 2019 at Pinecrest home for the aged with Father Blanchette of Notre Dame Parish officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to The Knights of Columbus or the District Hospital Foundation.
The Ouellette family would like to extend our profound gratitude to the caring staff at Pinecrest home for the Aged, who went above the call of duty to provide exceptional care to Gerry.
