LORNA GORDON April 13, 1936 – June 16, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, nana, grandma, and great grandma Lorna Gordon. She was surrounded by her family at Lake of the Woods District Hospital when we had to say ‘so long’ or ‘too-da-loo’ in the early morning on June 16. Mom was born on April 13, 1936 in Guernsey Saskatchewan to Ervin and Clara Biehn. In 1949 she moved to and grew up in Carrot River Saskatchewan. In 1953 she then moved to Kenora and from 1954-59 she worked as a bookkeeper at Scott’s store in Keewatin. In 1954 she met the love her life, Mickey Gordon, the son of Alex and Vi Gordon. On June 7, 1958 they were married… Mickey passed away in 2010. He and Lorna were happily married for 52 years. In 1966 Mickey was transferred with the MNR to Armstrong ON and it was there that they met their life long friends Gerry and Arleigh Dougherty. It was in 1968 that they returned back to Kenora where Lorna became very active with the Kinettes as their secretary. Lorna took great pride in never applying for a job, her reputation as an exceptional bookkeeper made her a sought after employee. From 1969-1976 she worked as the bookkeeper for Consumer Frosted Foods. In 1979 she started working for Jeannie Sinclair first at Loving Thoughts and then moved with her when she took over Greyhound and Excel bus lines. Our mom worked for Jean up until she retired in 1989. Our mom and dad both enjoyed their ‘coffee crew’ at McDonalds and A&W once they retired and it was always a joyous daily venture. Nana was the happiest when she was feeding her family who were friends and her friends who were family.. everyone was family and everyone was number one to her. She never missed a single sporting event for her children, and was known by most as the mom who always made sure everyone had something to eat, whether it was a hockey game for Greg for which they travelled to many tournaments for or off with RoxAnne for any figure skating competition. She was always supporting anyone and everyone. Lorna was a strong supporter of her children, especially Greg’s music and RoxAnne’s work with the Kenora Skating Club and then the Kenora Skating Academy. She held her grandchildren and great grandchildren close to her heart. Alix and her nana had a very special bond. Growing up next door to her nana Alix spent many days with her and most recently they had slumber parties where nana shared all her recipes, although her famous ribs recipe can never be replicated. She is survived by son Greg, daughter RoxAnne & Son in Law Mark Daignault. Grandchildren Alix Daignault (Jordan Lovas ) from Kenora. Coryanne Lancaster (Eric) and great grandsons William and Nathaniel all of Ottawa. Brother in Law Len Lafrienere. Nieces Brenda, Charlotte, Debbie, Victoria and nephews Brad, Doug, Kim, Kent and Terry and special cousins Carl and Lory Hansen Lorna was the last sibling alive within her family. She was predeceased by her parents Ervin and Claira Biehn, her husband Mickey, brothers Harry (Gwen), Lowell (Gwenth), Morley (Pat) her sisters Ethel (Doug) Little, Bev Lafrienere nephews Rick and Charles We would like to thank her doctors Kroeker, Wiebe, Olson and Weiner also to all the nurses on second east of Lake of the Woods Hospital for all the care you took in looking after our mom. There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone, the light remains – Will Dempsey
