Born in 1930 in Rainy River and raised in beautiful Morson, Ontario, Lorraine had wonderful memories of times playing with her siblings, riding horseback, and playing with their pet bear named Annie. She also remembered the great fire which destroyed so much forest and leaped from Island to Island. Lorraine loved fishing and we saw evidence of that literally within a month of her passing. Lorraine, Joan, Lloyd and Bill Fadden went by boat from Longbow Lake down to Bill’s cabin on Whitefish Bay for a couple of days of fishing. The Faddens moved to Sioux Narrows in the 40s where Lorraine worked as a waitress at Red Indian Lodge. In 1949 Lorraine was courted by Mervin (Mick) Walter Whiting. He would come down after work on Friday in a small canoe like boat with a 9 horse power motor. They were married in Sioux Narrows on November 19, 1949. They moved to Kenora and began raising a family. Lloyd Edward was born January 26, 1952, Wesley William was born December 16, 1953 and Lenard Mervin was born December 16, 1959. Lorraine was a loving and dedicated mother. She was proud of her son’s accomplishments in each of their separate careers. Lorraine loved to cook. In particular she loved cooking bread, cookies, cakes and especially pies. Apple, blueberry, lemon meringue but most famously, pumpkin pie. Her crust always light and fluffy and her desserts so very delicious. Lorraine was a devout Christian. She found faith, support and fellowship with the wonderful people at the Calvary Pentecostal Church. Her friends and family marveled at the firmness of her faith, love and kindness. On February 11, 2016 Lorraine was diagnosed with lung cancer and given six months to live. She decided to forgo treatment and put her faith in the Lord. She was confident in the power of prayer and for Christ to be with her until he wanted her to come home. On Wednesday, July 10th our Mother went to join her Lord. Lorraine’s favorite scriptures were Psalm 23 “The Lord is my shepherd” and Psalm 118: 17.
