John Lawrence Kukurudziak
John was born in Dryden ON, most of John’s life was spent in Kenora, raising his two children Kathryn and Jason here. John often shared the enjoyment he experienced through directorships with the Lake of the Woods Museum Board and Historical Society. John’s grandchildren are fortunate to have strong and meaningful memories of Papa. John had a profound influence on the lives of family, close friends and students, and for this, though we mourn his passing, we are all truly grateful for his presence in our lives.
John was predeceased by his wife Norma in 1998, mom Jesse in 2002 and dad Michael in 1976. ‘Kuk’ is survived by his sister Joanne Green; daughter Kathryn (husband Dennis, grandchildren Jacob, Claire, and Marek) of Brandon, Manitoba and son Jason (wife Debbie, grandchildren Matthew and Emily) of London, Ontario. In addition, mourning his passing are John’s sister-in-law Adele (nephews Ryan & Reid Nye) of Comox, BC, nephew Scott/Leah Green-children Shaedon, Sydney and Sawyer of Kenora; niece Leigh Green/Kyle Woodman-daughter Natalie of Vancouver and many wonderful and close friends, former colleagues and students.
The family wish to acknowledge the excellent care that John received at his new home in Pinecrest, and extend a very sincere thank you to Dr. Thomas, RPN Mike Limerick and all staff that worked closely with John-in particular PSWs Ronnie & Jason and Nurse Candy who successfully engaged John with the Pinecrest community and regular political discussions involving events on both sides of the border.
John jokingly requested that his ashes be used for spreading on the 14th Avenue hill, to ensure that teachers would be able to make it to school on time after the first snowfall following his passing. This is a part of who John was, always caring and sharing his sense of humour. The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life in spring of 2019 in Kenora, with a specific date and location to be announced at a later time.
If so desired, in lieu of flowers donations to Pinecrest Home for the Aged, Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice will be appreciated by the family. At John’s request, immediate cremation has taken place.
