BERGMAN, Barton

It is with great sadness that the family of Barton Bergman announces his passing on October 31, 2021.  Born August 17, 1938 in Kenora, Barton was the dear son of the late Ethel and Charlie Bergman.  Barton is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Nancy Bergman (nee Allison).  Loving father of Kim (Mark), Suzanne (Ray) and Greg (Duana). Cherished and proud grandfather of Trevor, Jordan, Keri and Makira.  Generous and kind to a fault, he always made time for anyone who needed a helping hand or needed someone to talk to.  He will be deeply missed by his extended family and friends.

After spending 3 years in the Air Force as a Radar Technician, Bart pursued an Electrical Engineering degree at Carleton University in Ottawa.  While tutoring his future wife, Nancy, Bart would get the teaching bug which would lead to a change in careers.

Bart dedicated over 29 years of his career to being an educator in Kenora. For his last working years he was principal of Beaver Brae Secondary School. In retirement, he enjoyed such pursuits as photography, tennis, model airplane building (and flying) as well as his lifelong passion of woodworking.

Boating was always a lifetime activity.  He loved sailing and Lake of the Woods was his perfect playground.  He also put his woodworking skills to use building sail boats, a canoe and a kayak which he created with tremendous skill.  In addition, Bart was involved in ham radio and volunteered his services to many events where radio communication was needed.

Special thanks to all the staff at Pinecrest Home For the Aged. You took such great care of Bart when his family couldn’t be with him in these unprecedented times.

A "Come & Go" will be held at the Minis Hall (Super 8 Motel) on December 15, 2021 from 2 - 5 pm.  Proof of vaccination is required to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society Kenora/ Rainy River Districts.
