June 27/48 - Jan. 15/17
It is with great sadness that we announce Mike’s passing on Sunday, January 15th with his wife, Wendy, by his side at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.
Mike is survived by his soul mate and best friend, Wendy, of 52 years.
He is also survived by his brother David (Marie) of Winnipeg, his brother and business partner, Malcolm (Doreen) of Minaki, and his sister Susan (Dale) of Red Deer, and his Uncle John (Diane) of Vernon, plus his sister-in-law Ola Armstrong and brothers-in-law, Ken (Shirley), Keith (Jacqueline) and Herb (Anne Marie) Knox and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mike is predeceased by his parents Marjorie and Mervyn.
Mike and Wendy moved to Minaki in 1972.
Mike, his father Mervyn and brother Malcolm started a business in 1974, owning Minaki Marina for 28 years and Birch Island Resort for 28 years, continuing only with Reid, Martin & Sons after 2006, their construction, sand & gravel and barging business in Minaki.
Although Mike didn’t find a lot of time to fly his different planes, they were a true joy to him, along with shopping for cars, trucks and equipment. He took great pride in getting jobs done right with no shortcuts. He was a straight shooter and very meticulous. His nature was to act strongly and direct at times, often hiding his inner softness.
Mike will be truly missed and never forgotten.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held in Minaki during the summer of 2017.
If you wish, in Mike’s memory, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
