Kerry Dale Schabler
July 4, 1960 – May 28, 2019

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Kerry Dale Schabler at Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora, Ontario.

Kerry is survived by his children Jordan and Ashlyn (Pat), mother and stepfather Marian & Rick, siblings Roxanne (Greg), Kevin (Susan), Kandi (Terry), Uncle Kenny (Charlene), nieces Alexis (Jeff), Tahsha (Grant), Kloee, nephews Kevin (Taylor) & Sterling. And his special little people Ellie & Trent along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and so many wonderful friends that he considered family.

Kerry is predeceased by his father Bill Schabler, stepmother Carol Schabler, cousin Lorrel-Lee Schabler and his grandparents.

Kerry was born and raised in Keewatin, were he spent his childhood playing and building forts at the Old Keewatin Ballpark with his buddies. Into his teenage years, he started his long time love for music with his first set of drums, which the neighborhood loved. He had an ear for music and when he mastered the drums, he taught himself how to play the guitar. As he developed his musical talents, he discovered his talents as a painter and artist. He could draw, paint, etch, design; you name it he could do it. And if he didn’t know how he would teach himself. Into adulthood, Kerry spent many years working in construction as a painter and at the Kenora Stud Mill. For the last 10 years, he was “one of the girls” at Birchwood Terrace working in maintenance. He loved spending time with friends and family with his big smile, his infectious laugh and outrageous stories. He would talk to everyone and never left anyone out. He loved entertaining and was always up for a party, especially for his birthday with his annual yard party.

Kerry had no greater love then what he had for his children and his family. He was proud of their accomplishments and recently found a love of dogs with his grand-puppy Kylie.

Kerry has lived a life of gratitude and hard work. He was loving and caring and loved those in his circle fiercely. Over the last few years with his good friend Jimmy by his side, he built his dream man cave and art studio, which he was very proud of. Spending time in this space listening to music, working on art projects or admiring his little car; He spent many hours with his friends in this space tastefully decorated to Kerry’s standards.

Kerry’s family would like to express their deepest and most sincere thanks to Kerry’s colleagues at Birchwood Terrace, Northwest EMS and the staff of the emergency department at Lake of the Woods District Hospital for their care and compassion.

Funeral Services will be held at Alcock Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 4th at 2:30pm with a celebration to follow at the Lakeshore Hotel. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.
