Charles (Chuck) Bourgeois - July 20, 2018
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Charles (Chuck) Bourgeois on Friday July 20, 2018. Chuck loved nothing more than being on the land. It was where he was truly home and were he found his peace. Chuck shared his knowledge and passion for his Metis culture in his role as an Instructor in the Kenanow Faculty of Education at UCN and previously with the Aboriginal Education Directorate. Chuck was completing a PhD in Native Studies at the University of Manitoba. He held very close to his heart his relationships with his supervisors and many other mentors that he met along his path. He was passionate about learning and speaking Anishinaabemowin, and practiced at any opportunity. While in The Pas, Chuck found solace and strength with elders and leaders of Frost Mountain (Mile 20) cultural camp near Thompson MB. Chuck is survived by his wife, Tina Munroe. He was a brother to Dianne Solar and John Bourke of Ottawa. Charles is the much-loved son of René and Gisele Bourgeois. He also leaves his brother Réjean (Emily), and their children, Marcel, Adèle and Audrey, his sister Janine (Steven) Currie, and her children, Grace, Noah, Nathan, Gwen, Neal, & Nico, and his brother Luc (Amy) Bourgeois.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Chuck’s honour to support future activities at Mile 20 to the attention of:
