Quinn, Karen (Née Borden)
July 16, 1953 – October 31, 2020
After a brief illness, Karen passed away at Lake of the Woods District Hospital with her family by her side.
Karen was born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, to Steve and Lily Borden (predeceased). The family relocated to Kenora after her father (Steve) was offered the manager’s position at Canada Safeway.
Karen and her two brothers (Peter and James) enjoyed growing up in Kenora, especially spending family time at their camp on Lake of the Woods.
Karen is survived by her husband (Jimmy) and her stepsons (Daniel and Edward). Karen will also be remembered by her niece and nephews (Sara, Sam, and Sean Borden), and surviving brother (Peter Borden) of Guelph, Ontario. She was predeceased by her brother, James.
Karen enjoyed swimming, curling, gardening, and mushroom-picking. She loved her golden retrievers and was rarely seen without one by her side. Karen was also very proud of her Ukrainian heritage.
After forty-five years of service with Canada Safeway, Karen retired to the Quinn home that she and “her Jimmy” built.
The family would like to express thanks to the staff on the 3rd floor of Lake of the Woods District Hospital for the care and kindness Karen received during her illness.
There will not be a service at this time; however, a celebration of life for family and friends will be held at a later date. Donations are appreciated to a charity of your choice in Karen’s name.
