Reuben Wasacase

Reuben Douglas Wasacase, age 77 passed away at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital on September 19, 2022, of liver disease. Many thanks go out to the hospital staff who took excellent and professional care of Reuben before his passing.

He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Mina Wasacase, and his two brothers George and Stephen Wasacase.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Maureen and his son Graeme, Graeme’s partner Marci MacFarlane and his stepchildren Nadine and Julian, his cousin Colin Wasacase and his family Karen, Sheila, Allison and husband Dan and stepdaughter Sheila Ochapowace.  He is also survived by many family members in Saskatchewan, too numerous to mention.  He loved all of you with all his heart.

Reuben held many jobs over the years he and Maureen were married.  In 1978 they moved to Kenora with Graeme.  Reuben worked for Canada Manpower, Band Manager at Wabeseemong First Nation, Ojibway Tribal and Family Services, Director of Sacred Circle and Executive Director of Migisi Alcohol and Treatment Centre where he retired from in 2012.  He loved working for and with the Indigenous community over the years he lived in the area and made many friends.  He also served on his home community of Kahkewistahaw First Nation as a trustee for the 1907 Specific Claims Trust and as a member of their Economic Development Committee.

In 1982 Reuben and Maureen bought a home in Keewatin where they have lived ever since.  Reuben took delight in his home and worked hard to renovate it and make it a warm and welcoming home.  He delighted in spending time with family and friends and welcoming family and friends to our home. He loved to barbeque and entertain. He also loved caring for and walking our various pets we had over the years.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on October 29, 2022 at the Super 8 Motel (Minis Hall), from 1:30 to 4pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian  Liver Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

Reuben will be sadly missed by his wife, son, family, and friends.  He is with his Creator now. Rest in peace my love. We will love you forever.
